Doctor Paul hails from Illinois, but left there to attend the United States Naval Academy, earning a Bachelors Degree in Systems Engineering and a commission as an officer in the Navy. After serving tours onboard the USS Constellation in the Persian Gulf and in the NORAD Command Center in Colorado Springs, he returned to Illinois for veterinary school. Once there, he concentrated on Wildlife and Conservation Medicine, then returned to Colorado for a small animal medical and surgical internship. Since then, he has served as an ER and general practice clinician, acupuncturist, Senior ER clinician/Intern supervisor, and ER Medical Director in the Denver metro area. He and his wife, veterinary technician JoAnn, have two kids and two dogs. When they are not saving animals, they enjoy hiking, travelling, cooking, and Colorado food and microbrews.
